UGC NET Paper 1 unit 10: Higher Education System
Higher Education System is unit 10 of 10 in the UGC NET Paper 1 syllabus. The syllabus notes that five questions of 2 marks are set from each unit, so it carries 10 of the 100 marks. Here is what it covers and how our papers set it: 5 questions in each of our 8 papers.
What the unit covers
The last unit is about the higher education system of India, past and present. It begins with the centres of learning of ancient India and goes on to how higher education and research grew after independence. It distinguishes the kinds of learning on offer: oriental, conventional and non-conventional programmes, and professional, technical and skill-based education. Value education and environmental education have a place of their own.
The larger part is about how the system is run today: the policies that shape it, the bodies that regulate, accredit and rank institutions, and the governance and administration of universities and colleges. Questions here are mostly about facts, such as what a body does, when a policy or commission came about, or what a programme is for, so they reward a clear picture of who does what. Our questions also draw on recent policy, the National Education Policy 2020 among it.
Policies and bodies change, so check the current position on the official websites before relying on a fact.
